Founded in 1924, NYS AHPERD is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) professional membership association serving health and physical education professionals throughout New York State. Through professional learning, leadership opportunities, advocacy, and meaningful connections, we support educators and advance quality health and physical education for all students.
For more than a century, NYS AHPERD has served as a trusted resource and professional community for educators across New York State. The association's first Executive Committee meeting was held on November 24, 1924, at the State Education Department in Albany. Herman J. Norton served as NYS AHPERD's first president from 1924 to 1930, helping establish a tradition of leadership, service, and professional excellence that continues today.
