About Us
Our Zone is made up of members living and/or working in Albany, Columbia, Fulton, Greene, Hamilton, Montgomery, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Schoharie, Warren, Washington counties. We host monthly meetings, a local conference, and webinars. We invite you to join us and become a part of a diverse and robust organization that continually works to enhance our members knowledge and skills, ensuring their students have the highest quality health and physical education programs possible.

Meetings rotate between in person and virtual with professional development programs being offered during some meetings.

Awards
Capital Zone recognizes excellence among our dedicated professionals with our Professional of the Year, Teacher of the Year, Zone Service Award & Amazing Person. We celebrate our outstanding students with the Elementary PE Student Leadership Awards, the Sandra G. Morley MS PE Student Leadership Awards and the High School PE Leadership Awards.

Zone Grants
Capital Zone offers annual mini grants to our members. Funds are available for current Zone members for the purpose of funding new or existing physical education, health or dance related programs needs within their school districts. Applicants may apply for up to $700 in total or partial funding in grant requests.

CAROL A. ATKINS
MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

The first Carol A. Atkins Memorial Scholarship was awarded at Scotia-Glenville HS on Friday, June 2, 2023. This scholarship was created by the Capital Zone to honor Carol who passed in 2021, after a 5-year battle with cancer. The inaugural award was presented by Carol's sister Bev Spencer, close friend Ellen Montanaro and Capital Zone member Barb Wurz. The $500 scholarship was awarded to Stephanie James. Stephanie will be attending the College of ST. Rose in the fall majoring in biology. She was very pleased to be the recipient of an award that honored one of her former teachers that she so admired.
